Then at the end of all that, the data is available for Power BI and other reports. Power BI Premium capacity is the E-ticket and is the best way to access all Power BI enterprise capabilities. Power BI Premium, AAS & SSAS Power BI Premium capacity is required to deploy a Model.bim file as a dataset in a Power BI workspace. Some people still reference this as a time dimension, but in most cases, the table will have dates and no times. ![]() The SSAS Tabular Model will need to be built with a date dimension. Figure 1 Year to date measure for total product costs. So a series of Excel files that use the custom ODBC driver to query the various tables each night from the other source, PowerShell script that executes "Refresh All" on each Excel file, then SSAS reads the Excel files into the model. You can just and use Tabular Editor to make new model enhancements. SSAS enables Time Intelligence with 2 features: the date table and DAX functions. (The only approach that seems to be open to me is the ODBC driver in Excel made available by the data source publisher. ![]() So it looks like that is the approach I must take. I have one approach left to get the data into my model each night, but I was running into some obstacles making it much more difficult. It does not appear to be possible, which is disappointing. So I figured, let Power BI get the data from the original source each night, and then I can get the data from the Power BI dataset each night. ![]() The reason is that I need to access some data that is not easy to access from SSAS but is easy for Power BI. But what I'm looking for is to use the active Power BI dataset as a data source to be read by my model, along with the several other data sources that are working fine.
